I have a number of photos of this beast, starting from its 1293cc debut at Kirkistown in September 1970. It then gained a Clubman front and 1430cc and I saw Alec perform a spectacular hand-brake turn in the car at Fintona (or was it Eagle Rock?). However, it met its match in the summer of 1971 on the bumpy concrete runways of Bishopscourt in the form of Mick Hill's 4735cc Ford Capri which had Lola T70 suspension and 380bhp. For 1972 Alec replaced the legendary Mini with another British Leyland vehicle, the ex-Roy Pierpoint Bill Shaw Rover with 4300cc Buick/Oldsmobile powerplant.
